The Duel Field

Duels in the Duelverse are fought on a holographic field: four projectors, one in each corner of the arena, light up the zones between the two duelists. Duels run on the real card rules engine, so every card plays as printed.

In development

The look of duels is still being polished and may change before release.

Before the duel

As every duel starts, both duelists' Duelist Licenses slide in on a VS screen while you walk to your marks, and your intro lines type out. A click skips it.

Camera and HUD

  • Every duel opens on the field overview, high above the board. V switches to the view over your duelist's shoulder and back.
  • Your hand sits at the bottom of the screen. Point at a card to raise it and see it large.
  • EDIT HUD (under CONCEDE, left of the field) lets you rearrange your duel screen while the duel runs: drag your LP, the hands, the phase buttons, the messages and the card panel wherever you like, and resize them with the mouse wheel. Your layout is remembered.

Attacking

In the Battle Phase, hold the left mouse button on one of your monsters and drag. A holographic arrow follows your mouse and lights up over a legal target. Let go to attack; let go anywhere else, or right-click, to cancel.

What you see during a duel

Field Spell worlds

When a Field Spell is face-up on the field, the floor under the duel field cracks open and reveals a 3D world that matches the card: an ocean under Umi, a forest under Forest, and so on for 21 Field Spells. When the card leaves the field, the floor closes again.

Card styles

On the Duel page under CARD APPEARANCE, pick how cards look: NORMAL, ANIME or RUSH. A card's rarity shows in the Normal style.

Reading a card

Select a card to open it in the card inspector. The card tilts with your mouse so you can look at it from every angle, and changed ATK and DEF values show in green (higher) or red (lower) than printed.

Voice control

Duels can be played by voice, too. Press F6 to switch it on, then say commands like "summon Dark Magician", "attack Blue-Eyes with Jinzo", "activate Monster Reborn" or "end turn". It runs offline on your PC, in English. Voice control is experimental.
