Tournaments

Tournaments run on the online server around the clock. There is always one on the board.

In testing

Tournaments are part of the online test phase. Times, formats and rewards may change before release.

The Astra Cup

  • An automatic tournament called Astra Cup #N is always announced. Its sign-up opens as soon as the previous one ends, and it starts 60 minutes later, with at least 10 minutes to sign up.
  • Up to 64 duelists can enter.
  • The format is drawn at random: 1v1 Constructed (you bring a deck) or 1v1 Draft (you build a deck on the spot).
  • Most cups are single elimination; some are double elimination, with a losers' bracket and a grand final.

The Astra team can also run tournaments of its own, including Swiss rounds and other draft styles.

Who can enter

  • You need to be logged in with Discord.
  • A tournament needs at least 2 duelists, or it is cancelled.
  • When a few seats are left over, NPC duelists fill the bracket up to the next power of two (never past 8 entrants): Rocko The Miner, Mira Starling, Captain Brine, Haru the Collector, Nova Quinn, Silas Gearwright, Pip the Prodigy and Madame Orlova.

Signing up

The chat announces every tournament. Open the TOURNEY window from the quick bar, or press E at one of the terminals by the tournament plaza's entrance.

  • OVERVIEW, BRACKET (STANDINGS in Swiss) and MY DECK tabs.
  • REGISTER signs you up; in Constructed you pick one of your GOAT decks, and CHANGE DECK works until the start.
  • LEAVE takes you out again.

The tournament plaza

The plaza lies south of the Astra Duel Arena: take the hatch on the Arena pitch next to the Arena terminal. It has 16 holo duel fields, each showing FREE, CALLED, LIVE or YOUR MATCH, and a bracket tower in the middle. Your minimap marks CUP at the entrance and MATCH on your field. The final is played in the Arena itself.

Your match

  1. The call. You have 7 minutes to get ready. A gold beam rises over your field.
  2. Ready up. Walk to your mark and press READY. If you aren't ready after 5 minutes, the game teleports you to your mark.
  3. Rock-paper-scissors decides who goes first in game 1: 10 seconds per throw (keys 1–3), and after five ties a coin decides. In later games, the loser of the last game goes first.
  4. The duel. Every match is one game, except the final, which is best of 3. A game ends after 40 minutes; then the duelist with more LP wins.
  • A duelist who doesn't show up before the call runs out loses the match.
  • FORFEIT MATCH in the TOURNEY window concedes.
  • While you are called, you can't start or accept other duels.
  • If you lose your connection, your seat in a running duel is held for 3 minutes.

Tournament games count as played and won, but they pay no DP or XP. The rewards come at the end.

Draft tournaments

Star Fall

In a Star Fall draft you stand on the Arena pitch facing a giant holo wall. Your own stream of 400 cards falls down it in 6 columns for 8 minutes, looping round again and again.

  • Click any card while it is on the wall to pick it. Missed one? It comes round again.
  • Pick exactly 40 Main Deck cards; Fusion Monsters go to your Extra Deck (up to 15). GOAT copy limits apply, and picks can be undone.
  • LOCK IN hands in your deck early. When time runs out, the game fills an unfinished deck.
  • STEP OUT takes you back to the city, OPEN DRAFT back to the wall.

Cards fall at these pull rates: Common 79 %, Uncommon 15 %, Rare 4.3 %, Epic 1.2 %, Legendary 0.35 % and Mythic 0.1 %.

Pack passing

Some tournaments draft the classic way instead: up to 8 duelists open 3 packs of 15 cards each, pick one card and pass the rest on, with 25 seconds per pick. Then everyone has 3 minutes to build a 40-card deck from their picks.
